AT&T Warp Factor 2 – Engage
AT&T announced today that they are rolling out High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) to Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami and Charlotte, N.C. before the end of the year. Notice they said end of “the” year and not end of “this” year, hmm.
This upgrade is reportedly in the works to address the issues that the iPhone users have been having with slow network response time and bandwidth availability.
With the new system in place, users will see theoretical speeds of up to 7.2 megabits per second, up from the current 3.6 megabits per second. Of course in reality 7.2 megabits per second will likely translate into speeds somewhere around 1.4 megabits per second.
When activated, this need network speed will essentially put AT&T the leader in network speed, but before the ink dries on their billboards, Verizon will have implemented their own new high speed solution that is reported to average between 7 and 12 megabits per second.
