BlackBerry Spanks iPhone in Indonesia

BlackBerry vs iPhone BlackBerry Spanks iPhone in Indonesia

I honestly LOVE reading articles where the BlackBerry dominates the iPhone and that’s exactly what appears to be happening in Indonesia.  According to an article in the Asia Times (www.atimes.com) the country has about 350,000 BlackBerry users and only about 15,000 iPhone users.  What’s even more astounding is that the number of BlackBerry users has increased 550% from just one year ago and is expected to rise to 1 million by the end of this year.

What is also fascinating about this story is the fact that over 80% of the BlackBerry sales do not happen at retail locations but on the countries “grey market”, where the price of a new BlackBerry can be half off the retail price by avoiding import taxes.

The dramatic rise in BlackBerry usage is, in no small part, attributed to the fact that most households don’t have internet access and the BlackBerry allows them to gain access to social sites like Facebook and MySpace.  Personally they all need to buy TetherBerry and get connected on their laptops as well.
