Cool Device Alert! Use your BlackBerry like a Netbook with Redfly

redfly netbook blackberry 300x170 Cool Device Alert! Use your BlackBerry like a Netbook with RedflyEver been sitting in an airport wishing the screen and keyboard on your BlackBerry were bigger?  Well if rumors are correct, then a company named Celio will soon have the answer and it’s called Redfly Mobile Companion. (sounds like a pet rock)

The Redfly Mobile Companion is a device that looks like a Netbook but hooks up to your BlackBerry via USB or Bluetooth to allow you to see and work on the Redfly’s 7 or 8 inch screen. (depending on model)   My first thought was WOW this breaths new life into applications that I haven’t really used much on my BlackBerry.  For instance, now Documents to Go could truly be a functional application for creating documents.  Or how about actually being able to create and post articles for MobiMadness all from the BlackBerry.  Honestly the possibilities are almost endless.

Currently the Redfly only supports phones on Windows Mobile OS, but they are saying that a BlackBerry version will be released very soon.

There is one downside however and that is that the Redfly does not support video from the BlackBerry at this time, but honestly that’s a small issue for me.

Now if only RIM would put that recent acquisition of Torch to good use and produce a better browser. That could be the crowning jewel of this setup.

As a note, we have requested a demo unit from Celio and hope to be writing a “hands-on” review very soon.  I am particularly interested in seeing the screen and how well it translates the image from the BlackBerry (aspect, distortion, etc.) and to gauge the battery life.
