Social networking website Facebook announced today that the total number of active users for their mobile optimized versions has exceed 65 million.  This number is even more astounding when you consider just eight months ago they only have 20 million.  A large portion of this success can be attributed to the fact that Facebook Mobile is included as a core 3rd party application for new BlackBerry, iPhone and Nokia smartphones.

Launched in 2006, Facebook Mobile first started out as a simple no frills site with just a few core features built in such as status updates and photo uploads.

Facebook has two mobile web sites for direct acces at http://m.facebook.com and even a touchscreen optimized version for the iPhone and BlackBerry Storm at http://x.facebook.com
