Research in Motion Fastest Growing Company of 2009
Research in Motion (RIM, the makers of BlackBerry smartphones is number one on Fortune’s annual list of Fastest Growing Companies for 2009. By comparison, Apple only came in at number thirty-nine.
The primary reason for RIM’s achievement is being attributed to the huge success that the new BlackBerry smartphones that were released this year. Currently 56% of the $12 billion dollars worth of smartphones sold in America are manufactured by RIM.
The company has actually experienced explosive growth and quadrupled its workforce over the last four years. RIM reports that they have also added 3.8 million new subscribers in the first quarter of 2009, which brings their grand total to 28.5 million.
“The increasing adoption of 3G networks worldwide, increasing adoption of Internet worldwide, consumers’ ease of use and need to get data on the go” have combined to create soaring demand for RIM’s products, said Veritas Investment Research Corp. analyst Neeraj Monga.
